I thought the pace was perfect.

'snoozefest'? Ah, such intelligent, insightful criticism there, Monty. After all, what could be more boring than men, facing death, struggling with the choice between sacrificing their lives or betraying their faith? Nothing even exploded!
This is a beautiful film, suffered from some pacing issues, and occasional philosophical heavy handedness -as in the penultimate voice-over scene - but overall very good.
