Flandersui gae (2000)

a.k.a Barking Dogs Never Bite

An idle part-time college lecturer is annoyed by the yapping sound of a nearby dog. He decides to take drastic action.

Unit 731

Bong Joon-ho's first and it has all his trademark elements that make his movies so good. Amazing cinematography, dark humor (even quite twisted here) and great characters.
His debut film is not exactly a masterpiece, but a fantastic first piece. The story is quite light, but it does have some deeper meaning to it and most of all, it is really funny and full of that quirky Korean humor.

If you really like Bong Joon-ho's work, you should check it out. It's a great sign of things to come. Also, the story of Boiler Kim is a scene that every lover of Korean cinema should see.
If you get butthurt by animal cruelty, you better stay away.

Odd story with supposedly deeper meaning and Doona Bae. That's your formula for a nice directorial debut.
