I loved this movie as a kid, and recently bought it to watch again. I feared it would not be as entertaining but to my pleasure it was still absolutely wonderful. Genuinely funny, beautiful art and very likable characters. One of my favorite non-Disney animations.

Given the title of this movie, I was surprised how early in it they actually get to El Dorado. This is really more about just saving El Dorado. The two main characters are fun, but their arcs are a bit weak and feel unfinished. Villian is forgettable, most side characters are underdeveloped. It does look great and the movie is very watchable because of that, as well as the fact that the characters are all at least fun to watch.
It does end very suddenly though with no real climax.

It's no wonder that this is titled "The Road To El Dorado", it is very much a Hope/Crosby picture. The plot was intellectually a step higher than I expected–Kline and Branagh do a pretty good job here. Weird that only one of the Elton John/Tim Rice songs are actually performed by the principals–not as memorable as The Lion King by any stretch, but serviceable.
