The Namesake (2006)

American-born Gogol, the son of Indian immigrants, wants to fit in among his fellow New Yorkers, despite his family's unwillingness to let go of their traditional ways.

Searching for identity, diasporic, cross-cultural shock of Asian-American are the themes. Serving as the adaptation of the novel with the same title and which is likely to be the corpus of my undergraduate thesis, the film can't quite visualize the beautiful words of the novel.

This was a great portrait of a family's life as the first generation move to America and the second generation identifying as Americans. A great study in family and cultural identity and on being an immigrant beautifully told by highlighting the small moments.

Plus, Nitin Sawhney's excellent soundtrack.
