Disappointing for a Coen Bros. film, but if you watch without expecting it to stand up to either the Alec Guinness original or prime Coens like Lebowski, it's not a bad way to spend an hour and a half. Good music, if nothing else.
Interesting they used so few of their usual cast. I understand why they wanted to move away from that, but it probably would've been a whole lot funnier if the gang had been made up from the likes of Turturro, Goodman, Buscemi & Polito. Philip Seymour Hoffman in the Guinness/Hanks role perhaps.
Well shoot me, I thought it was pretty damn hilarious. Great character performances. And the expressive painting!
I think going into it expecting a lesser Coen brothers film really allowed me to appreciate it. A lesser Coen brothers film > 95% of other films.
