@Ray Anselmo: I agree with you but I have a theory about this film. The film is a work of art, literature and most importantly poetry. It is known for its Urdu dialogues which are very much influenced by old Urdu Poetry. Unfortunately, this Urdu poetry experience gets lost in translation when viewing it in a different language or with subtitles.I think this could be one of the reasons why many dialogues might seem unnecessary and results in a sluggish experience in an already slow-paced film. What is more unfortunate is that the new generation of Indians are seriously away from Urdu/Hindi literature so they find such movie characters or their languages weird or amusing. This film is a treat for anyone who has read late 19th century or early 20th century Urdu/Hindi literature.

Inside this 185-minute epic is a nearly perfect 110-minute film desperately trying to get out. 7/10
