An excellent movie about comaraderie, commitment, and devotion. A very good watch for this period of history. Very healing.

WOW! This film is just unbelievably beautiful. It is David Lean-ian in scope, and with the warmth and beauty of Ozu. It is a long time since I was as moved by a film as this one. It is hard to categorise this film. It might be regarded as a war film but it is so much more than this. It is more of a music film than war film really, where music unmasks the unity of all people and the beauty of humanity. I feel transformed after watching this masterpiece. I saw it with my wife and she was so moved that she went into our room to have a moment on her own with the memories of the film. Here is a film that goes straight to my top 20 list. So again, WOW!
