Dune (1984)

In the year 10,191, the world is at war for control of the desert planet Dune—the only place where the time-travel substance 'Spice' can be found. But when one leader gives up control, it's only so he can stage a coup with some unsavory characters.

I think there's actually only one major problem with this film; There's too much material to cover everything in one go.

There was a lot of exposition, a lot of scenes felt rushed and many things simply weren't covered. I can imagine some bits from the book had to be cut, but it didn't feel right to me that the Fremen culture wasn't explored at all.

Otherwise I don't think the film is all that bad. The acting was all right and some of the special effects looked really good. Most notably the worms, which, frankly, surprised me a little.

I loved it :-D Incredible special effects and set designs. The acting is outstanding. Lynch adds his special flair to the movie and I think it is challenging to watch for most viewers because of it. The best thing about this movie is that it is 100 % unique. Nothing exists that is similar to it.

Jodorowsky and H.R. Giger are still alive. It's not like they still can't make another version.

Looks like there's a documentary about their original attempt coming out this year:
