Mr. Charlie, Your Rollin' Mill Is Burnin' Down (1969)

This short film by Les Blank with Skip Gerson features the charismatic legendary blues icon Lightnin' Hopkins sing a beautiful song about a stuttering boy who learns that he can communicate through singing. Also features Billy Bizor on harmonica.


Per Wikipedia, "Mr. Charlie" was an African American epithet for an arrogant or domineering European American male or another African American who is perceived as 'acting white.' It was commonly used during the 1800s along with the female counterpart "Miss Ann."
