Zeffirelli's classic take is still relevant today. It's sexy, and it's sad, and well played by all concerned. It does cut a crucial line from the play however, but this is me being my armchair Shakespeare scholar here.
I loved this movie! Beautifully done, and it manages to really capture the Shakespearean feel in ways that the Leonardo DiCaprio modernized version didn't. Stays very true to the play, and it made me cry. Amazing movie!
It captures the humour, the heartache, the romance, the grandeur that is required to sell this tale. I think a few (more modern) criticisms of the play itself are fair and the film does nothing to address these. But, as an adaptation, it's as good a one as we're likely to ever get
