A Canterbury Tale (1944)

Three modern day pilgrims investigate a bizarre crime in a small town on the way to Canterbury.

Apparently, at the end of WWII there was so much not going on in England as to lead several officers in the military to become obsessively preoccupied with a so-called "Glue Man." For those of you unfamiliar with the concept (as I was), it is a person who puts glue in your hair and then runs away. Forget the Nazis! There are "Glue Men" running about!
This was a great film, but somehow that main plot point doesn't . . . stick.

Beautifully English - about as far as you can go without becoming Jane Austen or George Eliot.

A really bizarre movie that is all over the place in its themes and symbolism. Yet the photography is gorgeous, the characters are likable, and somehow it all works as a whole.
