Another underdog story from the 80s, this time set in space with a very good and likeable cast, including a very young (and brilliant) Joaquin Phoenix. The movie does not start well due to some cringe-worthy dialogue and an amazingly silly robotic character. However, despite the obvious lack of sense and logic, the movie does manage to pick itself up in the second half when the young crew accidently find themselves in space, and delivers enough wonder and suspense to save the movie from failure. Can be somewhat enjoyed as a light-hearted adventure flick as long as your brain is operating at low capacity.
