@fewvisiblescars: It is cited a lot in feminist film theory because of the Davis character. I loved it when I first saw it but haven't seen it in years and don't really the stair scene at all. I think it's on my Davis box set, I should watch it again.

Some great moments - mostly from Humph & Bette, but some weak ones as well.. including probably the most unconvincing 'fall down a flight of stairs' I've seen.
